For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Circa 1915 Kraker Black Chased Hard Rubber Lever Filler Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition.
NOTE: The Kraker pens were manufactured by George Kraker of Sheaffer fame starting around 1914. Sheaffer sued for patent infringement and eventually won and received Kraker's factory and all parts as part of the damage award.
This fountain pen cap and barrel are in as close to perfect condition as one can get with color, chasing, with no chips, cracks or repairs and the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The barrel is stamped with, "KRAKER KUALITY KANAS CITY, MO U.S.A. PAT. 1,164,654 NOS. 1,119,993, OTHERS PEND.". The cap has a Nickle plated straight clip that is in near perfect condition with, "KRAKER CLIP PAT. 9.22.14: stamped. The lever filling system works as intended with the new sac. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it should.
I hand cleaned the outside and inside of the cap and barrel with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a sac. The Black Chased Hard Rubber material has perfect black coloring and the chasing is clean and crisp - the way these should look. This Kraker Fountain Pen measures 5 1/4" capped and 6 5/8" posted.
This Kraker has a #2 14K - Kraker Flexible Nib. The actual iridium tip on this Nib has a medium point measuring roughly .70mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a medium to triple broad stroke line. In the writing sample provided, the fine line measures at .82mm and will flex to a triple broad stroke measuring at 2.33mm with medium & firm pressure when measuring with digital calipers.
The Kraker Fountain Pen is in Near Mint-Mint condition and I would consider it one of the better fountain pens I have handled from this era. The Kraker Pen and its ties to Sheaffer really provide a historical remembrance of an era. The hard rubber material is quite remarkable with it's amazing chasing crispness and deep black coloring. This pen is ready to write if you choose to do so, or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.
